HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY TO US! WHOOP WHOOP!
Last month we celebrated our amazing milestone craft night with an arty party filled with extra special fun crafty activities...
SKETCH THE SONG
Matt Ponting joined us at February's 'Drop In & Draw' and returned to the stage where he ran his fun 'Sketch The Song' session where people were asked to draw what they hear...it was all a bit like Catchphrase.

See all the amazing illustrations over on Matt's blog...can you spot yours?!
DRINKS DECOR
Katie from West London based craft haven Artyard Handmade got us all in the party mood with some really fun accessories and decorations to dress up your drinks, including beaded tags and pimped up straws. We noticed that everyone around the table was smiling permanently.
SEW-A-COLLAR
The amazing Rosie Martin aka DIY Couture who helped us launch The Make Escape last May brought along piles of yummy fabric and showed eager fashionistas how to sew their own detachable collar. The queue had already formed before she arrived, we can see why, the project was amazing!
PARTY HATS
We were also very chuffed to be joined by Karen and Jo from Use.It.Up.Wear.It.Out who showed us how to turn scraps of paper and ribbon into stylish party hats.
RAFFLE
RAFFLE
Everyone who joined our night was given a raffle ticket as our birthday gift to say thanks for coming.
We were donated some amazing prizes by some very generous people which included a box of Make Escape themed cookies by Rebecca Wood (she even iced Momtaz!)
The lovely Hackney Picturehouse donated a pair of cinema tickets.
We also received a huge goody bag from Sew Magazine, won by Obie, our photographer for the night, a pile of magazines from Cloth Magazine, lots of books from Laurence King Publishing, craft queen Perri Lewis' book Material World book, And Sew To Bed by local author Alison Beadnell, a swag bag of crafty materials from Josy Rose, a huge parcel of yarn from Fabrications, a knitting kit from The Craft Closet, a sewing pattern from The Great British Sewing Bee contestant Tilly Walnes...
and this very, very stunning necklace by Max's World. (We all want one!)
BOYS
At The Make Escape we like to be known as the craft night boys like coming to and sure enough as usual, we had lots of boys doing their crafty thing.
CREATE A COMIC
Lucky aka Farcreazy Farid is one of our favourite workshop tutors and not just because he always looking gorgeous but because his sessions are so interactive...his participants are always cheering!
COLLAGE CORNER
It wouldn't be the same without some cutting and sticking and over in the collage corner were was some serious cake action going on!
EXHIBITION
We were thrilled that Save The Children set up their #I'mAPiece exhibition for the night in conjunction with The Craftivists who joined us last July and will be returning to raise more awareness of how craft and saving the work go hand in hand this August.
MUSIC
After they were kidnapped by pirates in April, our resident DJs The Spinning Yarns returned to the decks...though only 2/3s of them. Next month we're hoping to see all three back!
KNITTING
Our in-house knitting guru Madelaine had her hands full all night teaching newbies how to knit, while others sat back and relaxed with their own projects.
MAKERS MARKET
Finally we like to support Maker/Designers by letting them have a stall to showcase and sell their work and for May we were joined by Annie Martin. Her fabric pouches and cases are beautiful. If you missed out, you can also purchase them online.
THANK YOU
To everyone who came along to help us celebrate.
The whole night was magical!

SEE YOU ON JUNE 25th for our Summer of Love Festival themed Craft Night at the
Hackney Attic (Middle Floor Bar) *
*We've been booted out of our usual room for one month to make way for a celeb who needs the Attic but fear not, we'll still be there armed with supplies, workshops & music.
